OCCUPATIONAL HISTORY
Sowmya (Sam) has been practicing as a clinician for several years prior to transitioning to academia. Sam has an exposure in variety of settings such as acute care, inpatient, hand therapy clinics, that services a variety of diagnosis of different ages and stages. She has extensive experience with Pediatric clients in a variety of settings ranging from Early Intervention, School based, outpatient and private clinics. Her passion lies in working with children and adolescents with varied medical diagnosis and physical disabilities including Autism, ADHD, Cerebral Palsy, Neurological disorders, Sensory Processing Disorders, and Emotional Disturbance. She is SIPT Certified and has attended workshops and Professional Development Courses on DIR, NDT, Visual Perception and Yoga for the Special Child.
Sam is an avid reader and enjoys traveling and learning about other cultures. She enjoys spending time with family.
CLINICAL PRACTICE
Sowmya (Sam) has served a role as Lead Occupational Therapist supervising Occupational Therapists and Occupational Therapy Assistants. Sam also has been a Fieldwork Supervisor for students in OTA, Master’s, and Doctoral Level Programs. Sam also owns a private practice, Bala Therapy Services LLC. Bala Therapy Services, LLC provides OT services to private facilities and clinics, public/charter and private schools, and early intervention programs, and conducts professional development workshops for the community and professionals.
Prior to transitioning to full time academia, Sam has also held roles as an Adjunct Instructor at Thomas Jefferson University East Falls, Temple University and Widener University. Sam is also the Advisory Board Member for Salus University and Yeshiva University. Sam was an Advisory Board Member for Thomas Jefferson University East Falls for the OTA Program.
