I worked in public radio and television as a news reporter, an investigative documentary producer, and as a freelance television news photographer for foreign media in South Africa. I have also worked as trade union organizer and a librarian.

My research, and teaching, sit at the intersection of journalism, media production and ownership, and journalism pedagogy. My professional experience as a journalist and television news and documentary camera person informs my research interests in news and news content-production processes. Similarly, my role as a journalism educator inspires my research undertakings in journalism pedagogy.
