Dr. Owens is a Clinical Associate Professor of Pharmacy at St. Joseph's University’s Philadelphia College of Pharmacy (PCP). He is an Ambulatory Care Clinical Pharmacy Specialist with clinical practice sites located in Cooper University Hospital’s outpatient Internal Medicine clinics. He provides direct patient care to adults in a primary care setting while working closely with interprofessional teams within an internal medicine medical residency. He is the pharmacy coordinator for a 3-year interprofessional introductory pharmacy practice experience (IPPE) centered around the Cooper Rowan Clinic, a student-run free clinic in Camden, NJ. Dr. Owens also precepts advanced pharmacy practice experiences (APPE), PGY1 Pharmacy Residents, PGY2 Pharmacotherapy Residents, and Medical Residents in these settings.
Dr. Owens’ classroom teaching includes topics related to evidence-based medicine, mental health, and substance use disorders. He helps to coordinate the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy Teaching and Learning Curriculum Program for postgraduate Pharmacy Residents and Fellows from programs across the region.
Dr. Owens earned his Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy. He completed a PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency, PGY2 Family Medicine Specialty Residency, and Family Medicine Faculty Development Fellowship with UPMC St. Margaret Hospital. He is a Board Certified in Ambulatory Care Pharmacy. Dr. Owens joined the PCP faculty in 2016.
Professionally, Dr. Owens is passionate about interprofessional education and caring for underserved populations. Additionally, he is enthusiastic about the use of technology to facilitate the efficient use of learners' time and to improve patient care.
