Nick Coyle joined Saint Joseph’s University in 2024-25 as the Head Men’s Basketball Athletic Trainer. He comes to St. Joe’s with a vast array of experience in the professional ranks.
The Des Moines, Iowa native comes to Hawk Hill following a three-year stint with the Philadelphia 76ers organization as the Head Athletic Trainer for the Delaware Bluecoats. His time with Delaware saw the team make three straight NBA G League Finals runs and a win in the 2022 NBA G-League Championship. Prior to his time with the 76ers, he was with the Golden State Warriors as the Assistant Athletic Trainer for the Santa Cruz Warriors.
As a member of the National Basketball Athletic Trainers Association (NBATA), he served as Eastern Conference Representative and was also part recipient of NBA G-League Eastern Conference Athletic Training Staff of the Year for 2023-2024. He is a member of the National Athletic Training Association (NATA) and spoke at the 2022 NATA National Conference.
Nick has also worked with Team USA Men’s Basketball (FIBA 3x3) in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia & Shanghai, China. In 2022, he served as the Head Athletic Trainer for the Nigerian National Team as part of the FIBA World Cup Qualifiers in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire.
Prior to making the leap to professional basketball, Coyle was the Assistant Athletic Trainer at Tusculum University, working with football and women’s lacrosse. He also served as a clinical preceptor for their athletic training program.
In 2017, Nick served as a seasonal athletic trainer in the NFL with the Atlanta Falcons. He assisted with practice and game preparations, daily treatment, and injury rehabilitation. While in Georgia, he also worked as an athletic training intern with the Rome Braves baseball team, the Single-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves.
During the seasons of 2011 and 2012, Coyle served a student internship with the NBA D-League, the Iowa Energy (now named the Iowa Wolves, affiliate of the Minnesota Timberwolves).
He earned his undergraduate degree from Graceland University in athletic training in 2016. As an athletic training student at Graceland, in 2016, he was named Graceland's Student Athletic Trainer of the Year.
Nick received his Master’s degree in Physical Education with an emphasis in Exercise Science from the University of North Georgia in 2018. He also served as an Athletic Training Fellow at the Hughston Clinic where he served as the assistant athletic trainer at Central High School in Phoenix City, Alabama, working primarily with the sports of football, basketball and soccer. His fellowship also included work with the Columbus (Ga.) Cottonmouths professional hockey team.
Nick is a certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS) through the NSCA and also a Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES) and Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES) through the NASM. Additionally, he earned Sports Manual Therapist Certification (SMTC) and Applied Performance Coach Certification (APCC). Nick has also taken courses in Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS) Exercise Course Part 1 and Personalized Blood Flow Restriction Rehabilitation (PBFR) through Owen’s Recovery Science.
