Melissa Selverian, PhD, is an Adjunct Professor in the Communication and Media Studies Department. Dr. Selverian also teaches in the West Chester University Communication and Marketing departments and in Temple University’s Media Studies and Production Department. Her teaching and research areas focus primarily on the concept of telepresence, the illusion of nonmediation, and its relationship to learning, psychological processing, and popular culture. She has researched and published extensively in these areas and presented at many academic and professional conferences. Her publications include chapters in the peer-reviewed books “De Gruyter Handbook of Robots in Society and Culture” (De Gruyter) (in stages of publication) and “Teaching and Learning with Technology: Beyond Constructivism” (Routledge), the latter of which she was a co-editor. She has also edited the journal issue “New Media in Education” (Electronic Journal of Communication), and written numerous journal articles. Dr. Selverian has worked in journalism, public relations and marketing in the corporate, non-profit, and government sectors. She holds a PhD and an MA from Temple University and a BA from Villanova University.
