## History

- **1851:** Founded as Saint Joseph's College by the Society of Jesus in Philadelphia's Willings Alley, with Fr. Felix-Joseph Barbelin, S.J., as first president
- **1866:** Moved to Girard Avenue (now the site of St. Joseph's Preparatory School)
- **1927:** Moved to present Hawk Hill campus on City Avenue
- **1978:** Recognized as a university by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
