Kathryn Beaumont Murphy is Senior Associate General Counsel, supporting the broad range of matters for which the General Counsel's Office is responsible. She joined Saint Joseph's University in July 2022, with more than 15 years of experience working with educational institutions in both in-house and outside counsel roles. Most recently, she was counsel at Saul Ewing Arnstein & Lehr LLP in Philadelphia, where she was a member of the firm's higher education practice and co-chair of the K-12 schools practice. She advised clients on a wide variety of issues that included regulatory compliance, employment, data privacy, contracting and procurement, student discipline, litigation, governance, and harassment and discrimination investigations.
Kathryn's in-house experience includes serving as counsel and compliance manager for Milton Academy, a K-12 boarding and day school in Milton, Massachusetts, and as counsel for State Street Corporation in Boston, where she handled intellectual property, IT procurement, and data privacy matters. She also has worked as an intellectual property/publishing attorney and literary agent at Stern Shapiro Weissberg & Garin LLP in Boston, and as a tax associate at Ropes & Gray LLP in Boston, focusing on colleges, universities, and non-profit institutions. Prior to law school, Kathryn was a journalist and a high school English teacher.
Kathryn graduated from Princeton University with a bachelor's degree in English. She has a master's degree in journalism from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, and earned her law degree from Boston College Law School, magna cum laude.
