Hank Gillen is an Army veteran, teacher, and entrepreneur. During his twenty years of active and reserve Army service in the United States and Europe, he served in a variety of leadership and operations positions. He taught Russian at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and led the international student division of the Army’s Artillery School at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Following his military service, he co-founded ATI International, Inc., a business development firm targeting emerging markets in Eurasia. He spent ten years in project management, frequently traveling to the oilfields of Siberia and guiding clients through tasks from winning contracts to joint venture sustainment. He has also served as an adjunct instructor of business and language.. More recently, he has been focused on community non-profit leadership, serving in multiple roles with scouting, sports, and economic empowerment, and has been active in the Philadelphia area veteran community.
Hank is a 1978 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and holds a Master of Arts degree in Slavic Studies from Cornell University and a Master of Business Administration degree from Long Island University. He speaks German and Russian. His academic interests include international relations and the technical and psychological aspects of personal investing.
Since 2017, Hank has served as Director of Veterans Services, where he coordinates programs for veterans and service members, spouses, family members, and survivors enrolled at Saint Joseph’s three campuses. For veterans who want to start their own business, the office offers the Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans program annually. Hank serves on the boards of the Greater Philadelphia Veterans Network and the Delaware Valley Veterans Consortium. He’s committed to telling the story of veterans’ success at SJU.
