Professor Smith has nearly 20 years of experience as a physician assistant. He was a National Health Service Corps scholar and clinician, and practiced primary care in a rural Alabama community after graduating from the physician assistant program at Philadelphia University. He subsequently worked clinically in outpatient neurology, focusing on the treatment of multiple sclerosis, urgent care, and family medicine, where he precepted PA, NP, and medical students. Professor Smith has 7 years of experience in PA education, having previously taught in the PA program at Philadelphia University, where he also served as interim clinical coordinator. He has also served as a program director and chair of physician assistant studies. His academic interests include neurology education, simulation in education, the role of PAs in public health, health communication, and health disparities. His doctoral studies at the University of Lynchburg focused on physician assistant education.
