My research interests are in green organic chemistry and in chemical education.

In the lab, we are exploring environmentally benign methods to carry out organic reactions suitable for the sophomore organic chemistry laboratory, such as alcohol oxidation and synthesis of coumarins. 

In the classroom, we are investigating the impact of "instructional scaffolding" on student learning in chemistry, in an effort to improve student success.
